I read an article today submitted by a supporter of another Republican in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District on the Columbus Tea Party website. I had the opportunity to post my own endorsement of Former State Senator Steve Stivers. The Columbus Tea Party does not endorse candidates but allows users to post to start dialogue.
The supporter of the other candidate insinuated that Stivers is not a “Tea Party Republican” and made several false claims about Stivers and the movement. Here’s an excerpt of my endorsement (click the link above to read the whole thing):
I have stated my disagreements with the ORP’s treatment of the Tea Party movement, and it has sparked an intense debate online and between myself and other Republican friends. That being said, our disagreements shouldn’t cause us to throw out good candidates with Tea Party ideals because they have establishment support.
I also know Steve Stivers to be a fiscal warrior, who will defeat the statist Congresswoman Kilroy in November. As the leader of the 2009 Columbus Tax Day Tea Party, and as the “father of the Tea Party movement in Central Ohio”, as WTVN radio host Dirk Thompson coined me last Sunday, I endorse Steve Stivers for Congress in 2010.
I vigorously encourage my fellow “Tea Party Republicans” to join me in supporting this liberty-minded small government Conservative.

Press Release by David Ryon for Congress, 2010 Constitution Party Candidate, 15th Congressional District, Ohio. Former 2008 Pro-Life Candidate Don Eckhart endorses David Ryon ~ April 23, 2010.
Many of you already know, David Ryon has received the endorsement of the Constitution Party of Ohio and National Veterans Coalition as a candidate for U.S. Representative in Ohio’s 15th congressional district. David has received another important endorsement.
On April 21, Don Eckhart, former 2008 Pro-Life Candidate for U.S. Representative in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, has endorsed David in the 2010 congressional race. Don Eckhart received the Ohio Right to Life and Family First endorsements in 2008. Here is Mr Eckhart’s written endorsement for David Ryon:
I endorse David Ryon as the Constitution Party candidate for the 15th Congressional District in the May 4th primary election. David served with honor in our country’s military and will serve with equal honor in the United States Congress.
David upholds conservative values and will work to restore our nation’s treasured foundational principles. He is a solid pro-life supporter and can be counted on to be a strong voice in Washington, D.C.
David Ryon has been open with his views and agreed to participate in a public debate. In contrast, his opponent Chris Macisco did not agree to participate in the debate. I know these facts first-hand since I was the debate organizer.
I hardily endorse David Ryon for the May 4 primary election.
Don Elijah Eckhart
Mr. Higgins,
Its more than just ONE ISSUE that we disagree with Steve Stivers. Would you vote in a Democrat Lite like Stivers or a constitutional conservative like John Adams.
Steve Stivers clearly stated at the Q&A session in Dublin Ohio in February 2010 that he favors an unconstitutional health care reform bill just not the one currently presented. How does that hold tea party values?
Here is a link that shows Stivers is pro-bailout How does being pro bailout hold tea party values? http://www.buckeyestateblog.com/oh_15_stivers_conflicted_on_bailout_resorts_to_name_calling
Here is a link that shows Stivers supports repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: http://www.blogcabin.net/?p=209
Stivers supports gay marriage: http://www.gaypeopleschronicle.com/stories08/november/1107082.htm
Stivers supports ABORTION!
Mr. Higgins gay rights and abortion may not be tea party values, They are conservative values which supposedly the Republican Party upholds. I am sorry Mr. Higgins your endorsement of Steve Stivers makes you out to be a RINO NOT the father of the tea party movement in Central Ohio.

Better add 17th amendment to the list of flip flops.

Mr. Higgins,
If Mr. Stivers wins the Primary many pro-life voters will not vote for him in November. I worked with a large group of Pro-Life voters from Central Ohio in 2008. We could not support Mr. Stivers due to his stand in Abortion. I hear he has a 100% pro-life voting record with ORTL but I see his more recent answer on the 912 questionaire which leaves me cold. Mr. Stivers and the GOP need to understand they will lose without us. It happened in 2008 and it will happen again if things do not change. It’s not that we would not, it’s that we CANNOT vote for Mr. Stivers. John Adams is the moral choice for Ohio’s 15th District.
God bless us all and God bless this great country of ours!

Michael,
The only influence a Congressman has on abortion is in regards to federal funding thereof. Stivers is opposed to public funding of abortion, and the House of Representatives has no other input on abortion policy. They do not vote on the confirmation of judges, who are the real warriors of the life debate right now. I am 100% pro-life and am comfortable voting with Stivers because he opposes public funding of abortion.
Steve Stivers is a former bank lobbyist who was appointed by fellow politicians to the only office he’s ever held. After being appointed to the office, he joined the politicians who appointed him in voting for multiple tax hikes.
I’m no spokesman for the Tea Party movement, but it seems to me that tax-hiking insider Steve Stivers is the opposite of what the Tea Party represents. Am I off base here?
